If you are missing teeth, chances are good you’ve felt sad, ashamed, or embarrassed about your smile. People who have endured the emotional, professional and social impact of missing teeth are special to the Bullard Dental team. It takes grit and self-belief to navigate our looks-obsessed culture. Ultimately, our goal for you is to live your happiest life–and if you choose us to repair your smile to help get you there, we’re honored to be here for you.
One of the most effective ways to replace missing teeth is with dental implants. The only permanent solution to replace missing teeth, dental implant posts are capable of regenerating a new tooth root for a strong, secure smile. Dental implants help prevent bone loss and preserve the integrity of the face and jaw structure. Best of all, implants allow you to chew, smile, speak, laugh, sing, and smooch with confidence–for life!
According to the American Academy of Implant Dentistry, 3 million people in the United States have implants. Each year 500,000 more join that number. Dental implants have been around for 30 years and have been tried and tested — they are loved by patients for their reliable outcomes. If you are missing teeth, Dr. Bullard can assess your case and let you know if you are a healthy candidate for implants.
A dental implant is a screw-like post that is surgically placed into your jawbone. An abutment protrudes from the gum line to connect the artificial tooth or teeth to the implanted post. Once complete, you will have a replacement tooth and secure tooth root that is not only stable, but blends in beautifully with the rest of your smile.
The implant procedure begins at your initial consult with Dr. Bullard. He will assess your case and determine if you have enough bone density to support a dental implant. If not, he may discuss bone grafting. Once you have been approved for the procedure (depending on how extensive your case) you will be scheduled for several appointments.
A few things that will determine the timeline are:
For the simplest cases, you will have a consultation where a 3D image is taken of your mouth and sinus cavity, followed by a separate preoperative appointment. If all goes well, the implant post-procedure will take place. Most patients feel little discomfort during the procedure. Once the implant has been placed, it takes several weeks to incorporate itself into the jaw. Once Dr. Bullard feels the post is stable, you’ll return to the office for placement of your permanent crown restoration.
If you are missing more than one tooth in a row–or missing all teeth on the top or bottom arch–Dr. Bullard can provide implant supported dentures. Implant-supported dentures incorporate implants throughout the jaw that hold a denture or bridge securely in place. Depending on the specific case, Dr. Bullard will let you know which implant supported denture option is best for you.
All-on-4 is another type of implant-supported denture protocol Dr. Bullard may suggest. All-on-4 refers to the way the full arch denture fits on just 4 dental implants. Compared to getting a single implant for each missing tooth, All-on-4 is an innovative way to get a full and beautiful smile with only 4 implants. With the All-on-4® option, you get your full set of implants AND teeth in one day.
